About us

Our Approach: Sustainability, Empowerment and Community

BBU is 100% led by Traveller women, for Traveller women. Through leadership, skills training, and employment opportunities, we support Traveller women to develop confidence, build careers, and achieve long-term financial independence. Participants receive paid work, accredited training, and business mentorship, with many already progressing into management and supervisory roles within the organisation.

Bounce Back Upcycling (BBU) brings together environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and economic empowerment. Working in partnership with the award-winning social enterprise Bounce Back Recycling (BBR), we are creating real opportunities for Traveller women while contributing to a more sustainable future.

We address furniture poverty and environmental waste at the same time by rescuing discarded furniture and transforming it into high-quality, upcycled pieces. These items are then made available at affordable prices for low-income households and students, helping more people access sustainable furniture.

We also offer a custom upholstery service, allowing customers to restore and refresh their own furniture instead of throwing it away. This extends the life of furniture, reduces landfill waste, and supports the circular economy.

Community voices are central to everything we do. Traveller women, customers, local businesses, and charities all contribute to the design and development of our services and products, ensuring our work remains relevant and responsive to real community needs.

By combining social justice with environmental action, Bounce Back Upcycling is helping to build a more sustainable, inclusive future for everyone.
